The 1939 Register has him living at 3 Pryke's Drive, Chelmsford where he was a Switchgear Store Assistant. 

Barclay was Gazetted Commander Brother, the Order of St John 18th December 1980. His O.B.E was awarded in June 2001 for services to the Army Benevolent Fund and it was reported in the Shropshire Star that he was an Arnhem Veteran. 

Died on 21 August 2011 in Shifnal, Shropshire.
