Senior Petty Officer Walter Ellis RN was born 4.4.1889 in Leeds York He enlisted in Royal Navy on 1.11.1909 and saw service in the Persian Gulf operations aboard Prosperine. In WWI he served aboard Grafton at Gallipoli Syrian Coast - Grafton was a 1st Class cruiser, modified as a gunfire support ship in 1915. She served at Gallipoli and around the Syrian and Palestine coasts for the rest of the war. He transferred to the Royal Fleet reserve on 4.1.1920

According to the 1939 Register he was a Motor Lorry Driver living at 13 Greenwood Mount, Leeds.

He died in 1959
