Charles Frederick Ede was born in Worthing, Sussex in 1879. He emigrated to Canada and had pre WWI service with 103 Calgary Rifles. He was a Fitter & Turner by trade.

Arrived in England 25.2.1916 and went to France/Flanders 26.5.1916. Was promoted Sergeant 29.10.1916 with the 3rd Division Engineers. He was Knocked out and buried by a Gas Shell in France on 29.7.1917 (Some reports say Severe GSW to the back). He suffered with Myalgia and was repatriated to England and then to Canada on 21.5.1919.
