260849 PNR.C.GRUBB. R.E. Charles Grubb served with 4 different units in WWI. Royal Engineers/Wilts R./Dorset R. and the Camerons. He lived at 11066 Kingsdown Road, Upper Stratton Near Swindon Wells when he attested for service on 21.7.1915 at Devizes, Wiltshire at the age of 44. He claimed previous service with the Wiltshire Regiment from which he was discharged after the termination of his first period of engagement.
After serving at home with the Wilts. Regiment, the Dorset Regiment and the Cameron Highlanders, he embarked for the British Expeditionary Force on 14.4.1917 as a Pioneer with the Royal Engineers, Road and Quarry Division. He was discharged on 13.12.1918 - no longer fit for war service and suffering with Facial Paralysis Rheumatism. He earned a Silver War Badge which is not with the group.
According to the 1939 Register, he was a Retired General Labourer living at 17 Bright Street, Swindon. He passed away in Swindon in the 2nd Quarter of 1946.
