7688/1149 Colour Sgt./Lt. Harry Westlake was born in Exeter on 23.8.1969. He served in the Anglo Boer War with the Rifle Brigade as a Colour Sergeant from 29.10.99 to 20.6.1900 and was in the Relief of Ladysmith. He went with his regiment to Malta and was discharged in 1906. He joined the West Yorkshire Regiment on 1.5.1911 going to France with them on 13.4.1915. He proceeded to England on 17.8.1915 to take up a Commission as Quartermaster with the 3/4th Bn K.O.Y.L.I. Resigned his commission on 9.2.1921 retaining the rank of Lieutenant. He finished WWI as a Captain according to his Medal Index Card.
He was awarded his Army L.S.G.C on 1.1.1906 whilst with the Rifle Brigade. He passed away in 169 Haxby Road, York on 16.11.1925.
He was the father to Sir Charles Westlake, born 1900, who was Chairman of the Uganda Electricity Board.
