Walter Morrod was born in Hull End, Derbyshire on 15 November 1915. He enlisted with the Royal Tank Corps in March 1933, serving with 2nd and 8th Battalion where he attained the rank of Regimental Sergeant Major. He was awarded a Mention in Dispatches for North West Europe in March 1945 and was demobbed in 1946. He then joined the Shrewsbury Fire Brigade and was awarded the MBE as a Senior Divisional Officer, Salop on 1 January 1975.

He passed away at the age of 93 on 29 July 2009
