Wing Comm Richard Middleton Hewat was born on 16.2.1913 in Beccles, Suffolk. He qualified as a Medical Doctor in 1936 and, in 1938, enlisted in the Medical Branch of the Royal Air Force. In WWII he was attached to 47 (Bomber) Squadron in Khartoum among other places. He served in Malaya and was awarded the GSM medal with that clasp. He was later the President of the Medical Selection Board for the RAF.
According to the Medical Register 1939 he was living at 40 Inner Park Road, Wimbledon Common, London
He was awarded the Coronation Medal 1953 issued to him whilst attached to the Royal Air Force Hospital Uxbridge.
He passed away in Hampshire in 2001.
