Blight was one of the South African contingent who, on arrival in the UK in late 1915, was sent to Alexandria in Egypt to fight the Senussi tribe in the Middle East. Once the Senussi's had been defeated the SA contingent sailed for Marseilles to join operations on the Western Front, arriving there in May 1916, just in time to take part in the fighting at Delville Wood.
He survived the war and was repatriated to South Africa in early 1919, being discharged at Woodstock in his native Cape Town on 28 May 1919. A Stone Mason by trade, he passed away in Landsdowne, Cape Town on 12 March 1951
