Robert William Davy born Docking Norfolk in 1892 had a short war. He attested with the Yorkshire Light Infantry on 8.9.1914 and was sent to France on 15.11.1915. After 41 days he was discharged Sick on 24.2.1915 and returned to the UK. Awarded the Silver War Badge so that the public wouldn't give him the white feather, he had an interesting encounter on a tram car.
The Sheffield Independent of 17.2.1917 carried an article wherein Davy featured, "In Sheffield Court yesterday, Fred Simmonite of 66 Harwood Street was charged with offensive conduct on a car. It was explained that, seeing a discharged soldier, Robert William Davy, wearing his silver badge, defendant, who was drunk, used offensive language and said the badge was a fake. Later, he got up and kicked Davy twice on the legs, after which he was put off the car. Fined £1, including costs."
It is this same Silver War Badge that Davy was wearing which is included with the medals.
