James Mitchell was born in Edinburgh. He enlisted with the 8/Royal Scots Fusiliers To France 20.9.1915 He was Killed in Action in the Balkans on 19.9.1918
The 8th (Service) Battalion was formed at Ayr on 1 October 1914 and came under orders of 77th Brigade, 26th Division. They moved to Codford St Mary and went into billets in Bristol in November 1914. Moved to Sutton Veny in April 1915.
20 September 1915 : landed at Boulogne but soon moved and by November 1915 was at Salonika.
He is remembered on the Doiran Memorial in Greece.
His 1914-15 Star was erroneously issued with number 14383 but was corrected and re-issued by the authorities in 1920.
