Francis Day was 20 years old when he was admitted to No 23 Ambulance Train 17333 on 5.9.1916 with Trench Fever and Pyrexia of unknown origin. He was sent home aboard Hospital Ship Asturias and was attached to 20th (Service) Battalion (British Empire League Pioneers) at the time. After treatment he returned to the front and was WIA - the incident being reported on 21 Nov 1917, He died of wounds received in action on 28.8.1918 in France with 2/2 London Regt.
Percy Wilkinson Day born in Barrown in Furness, Lancs in 1883 was serving with 1st/4th Bn., Lincolnshire Regiment when he was Killed in Action on 13 October 1915 at the age of 22. He was, like his brothers, a son of Alice Day, of 9, Stockingstone Rd., Luton, and the late George William Day.
William Henry Day was born in Barrow in Furness in 1885.He served in the Merchant Navy in WWI and was commissioned a Lieutenant. He is also entitled to the Mercantile Marine Medal. He served in WWII - medals awarded confirmed. The 1939 Register has him living at 78 Mortimer Road, South Shields as a Master Mariner and RNR Lieutenant (Retired)
