"Private Alfred Tanner, son of Mr and Mrs J.W. Tanner of Grove Avenue, Acock's Green, was wounded in the leg at Gallipoli in September 1915. Every effort was made to save the leg, but it had to be amputated last week, and he died on Saturday. He leaves a wife and one child living at Heathmill Lane (Birmingham). He was an old scholar of St. Mary's Schools, Acock's Green."
