1914-15 Star (STK-187 PTE. A.L.W. NORMAN, R.FUS:); British War Medal (S.LT. A.L.W. NORMAN. R.N.R.); Victory Medal (S.LT. A.L.W. NORMAN. R.N.R.) - in original cardboard boxes of issue and with Memorial Scroll.

One of three brothers, the sons of Rev Denham Norman, who all fought in WWI - two of whom perished with Cyril being the only survivor.

Aubrey Lancelot William Norman was born in Stafford in 1890. Initially he followed older brother Cyril to sea and was awarded his First Mate Certificate in 1911. When WWI broke out he enlisted with the 10th Bn (Stockbroker's) of the Royal Fusiliers and went with them to France on 30.7.1915. In what was an unusual transfer, he moved over to the Royal Naval Reserve and was commissioned with them on 28 September 1916.

He was Lost at Sea whilst serving as a Lieutenant aboard HMS Newmarket when she was torpedoed and sunk by U-Boat 38 in the Aegean Sea south of Icaria, Greece on 17 July 1917. He was one of 70 officers and crew that went down with her. The 833-ton steamer, which had previously been used by the Great Eastern Railway Company, was requisitioned by the Royal Navy for minesweeping duties.

Medals are in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold with some research. See C1002853 and C100 2854 for his brothers medals.
