Miniature Medal

Awarded from 1848 when the medal increased in size from 34mm to 36mm.

This style features the young head of Queen Victoria without the date 1848 below the neck. During the period 1849-50 around 100 medals carried the date 1848 as the wrong head had been used during the striking.

Recipients initially had to serve 21 years but this was reduced to 10 years in 1874, then increased to 15 years.

A rare miniature and available in limited quantity.
