Cadet Forces Medal GVIR (ACT.FG.OFF. H.V. RUTHERFORD. R.A.F.V.R. (T).) in original box of issue.

Harold Victor Rutherford was born in West Hartlepool, Durham in 1900. A Bank Official, he joined the RAF on 11.6.1918 and was commissioned a Pilot on his demobilisation in 1920. The 1939 Register has him living at "Chaseley" in Docking, Norfolk where he was described as a Bank Accountant and RAF Ex-Officer's Emergency Reserve.

In a letter dated 9 September 1941 his mother, Annie Rutherford, wrote that, "My son is an Accountant in a bank in Kings Lynn, 204 miles from us. The Bank won't sanction his joining the army, but he is an Adjutant of the Air Cadets, besides Home Guard and fire watching all in his spare time."

According to the RAFVR List in 1941 Rutherford was an Acting Pilot Officer with the Training Branch. He went on to be awarded the Cadet Forces Medal. He passed away in Neville Hall Hospital, Abergavenny, Gwent on 24 February 1994.

Inscribed on the medal box are the words, 'Nat Prov bank Kings Lynn Norfolk.'
