According to his Burma Star Association membership application, Gledhill served as a Bandsman with the 1st Bn The West Yorkshire Regiment and the 17th Light Indian Division in Burma which made him eligible for membership of the Association which for which he applied on 1 March 1962 whilst living at 22 Barkston Road, Chapel Fields, York. The medals he earned tally with those on his WW2 Medal Application Card.

The Royal Northumberland Fusiliers (RNF) were part of the United Kingdom's ground forces in the Korean War (1950-1953). They fought in the Battle of the Imjin River, an 80-hour engagement with Chinese forces that took place from April 23–25, 1951. The RNF were part of the 29th British Independent Infantry Brigade Group, which also included the 1st Battalion The Gloucestershire Regiment, the 1st Battalion The Royal Ulster Rifles, and an attached Belgian Battalion.

He died in Liverpool in 1984.
