Edward James Wheller was born in Evesham in 1902 and enlisted with the 9th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers on 1.10.1923 He was with his battalion in the Far East during WWII and was taken POW with the fall of Singapore on 15 February 1942.
He completed the Returned POW Confidential Questionnaire and confirmed that he had been held prisoner at Changi Camp, Kepple Harber; Siam (Thailand), Japan and Itruka Camp where he remained until being liberated. Although he did not attempt to escape he provided details of many who had.
Having joined the Post Office in 1939 he resumed employment with them after the war and was awarded the Imperial Service Medal as an Assistant Inspector with the Post Office (York) per LG 9 September 1969
