Afghanistan Medal (6B/348 PTE. G. BUTCHER. 1/25 REGT.)
George Butcher was born in Kidderminster in about 1840. He attested for service with the 1/25th Regiment - the Kings Own Borderers - on 1 June 1858 and saw service with them in Gibraltar, Malta, Canada and in the Afghan campaign. He was discharged at the age of 39 on 18 May 1880 - the result of being found Unfit for Service because of an Inquinal Hernia which he developed whilst employed on military works at Gibraltar and which was much aggravated by field service in Afghanistan 1878/79.
Butcher was described as a "worn out soldier with a troublesome rupture who will be able to contribute slightly towards support." He was awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal in 1877 - this is not included.
Medal is in good condition unless otherwise indicated. Sold with some research including copy service and medical papers.
