George Martin was born in Okehampton, Devon in 1874. He was to spend his entire working life in the Waterworks Department of the Torquay Town Council, ending up as its Foreman on retirement. He was also an ardent volunteer with the Torquay Corporation Fire Brigade - an institution that he served faithfully from before the time he was awarded with the 1911 Coronation Medal and many years beyond - qualifying for the 5, 10 and 20 Year bars to his two Fire Brigade Long Service Medals.
According to the 1939 Register he was living at 25 Fairfield Terrace in Newton Abbot and was a retired Waterworks Foreman.
He died in 1965 from an acute intestinal obstruction at the age of 90.
Medals are in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold with some research. Please note that the Fire Brigade medals were issued with a number on the rim. Martin has, at some point, had his names engraved after the number.
