Medal of the Order of the British Empire, Civil Division - unnamed as awarded in case of issue - with a sterling silver cigarette case inscribed "From Lord Kitchener to E Pugh 1909", a cased medal inscribed on the reverse Visit of H.E. Lord Carmichael Governor of Bengal with the date 1913 engraved on the obverse and a P.A.M. Time Badge medallion on a very frayed ribbon.

Ernest Pugh was, reputedly, a Batman to Lord Kitchener in 1909 for which service Kitchener rewarded him with the silver cigarette case alluded to above. He garnered further honours with the award of the  O.B.E. medal in 1920 (LG 2 March 1920) "in recognition of meritorious services in connection with the production of Munitions & Materials of War in India"

A faded press cutting which is included states that, "The many friends in Calcutta of Mr Ernest (known to his intimates as "Tommy") Pugh will be glad to hear that the King has conferred on him the O.B.E."

Medals are in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold together with copied research including correspondence with a Pugh relative and various organs of state regarding Pugh's medals etc.
