John Cameron Foley was born in Westville, Nova Scotia in 1891. He attested for service in WWI in August 1915 and was posted to England preparatory to entering France on 1 June 1916. He was Wounded in Action - Shrapnel Wound to the Right of his Chest which penetrated his lung - this occurred during the Battle of Courcelette on 20 September 1916. After treatment in hospital he was returned to Canada on 20 December 1918 and was discharged in 1919, having reverted to the rank of Private.

Foley moved to Fairmont, West Virginia, USA and passed away there on 24 December 1965 at the age of 74.
