Royal Humane Society Swimming Medal (ARTHUR SAML ROBINSON) - Inscribed on the obverse with H.M.S. "BOSCAWEN" 1887
Arthur Samuel Robinson was born in Poole, Dorset on 27 July 1871. He joined the Royal Navy as a Boy in 1886 and was at the Shore Establishment, H.M.S. Boscawen, based in Portsmouth at the time he was awarded the Royal Humane Society Swimming Medal (which was awarded for proficiency in swimming exercise with reference to saving life from drowning) in 1887.
Robinson's career prospered and he was promoted to Boatswain with effect from 28 October 1899. He received glowing comments from his superiors with his Conduct and Ability rated as Very Good. Captain Protheroe rated him as "Most able and trustworthy." Robinson commanded a River Gunboat "and has carried out his duties with credit.
Sadly his career was cut short when he died from Consumption at Chatham on 12 December 1904.
Medal is in good condition unless otherwise indicated. Sold with research. Possibly Robinson's sole medallic entitlement.
