Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal QV (1872 PTE. G. ALLEN. 13TH HUSSARS)
George Allen was born in Sevnoaks, Kent in about 1836. He enlisted for service with the 13th Light Dragoons from the West Kent Militia on 12 March 1855. Of his total service of 18 years 284 days only 1 year was spent in action in Turkey and the Crimea - for which he embarked on 4 September 1855, arriving at Balaclava on the 29th.
After almost 12 years service with the Light Dragoons he transferred to the 13th Hussars on 8 March 1867.
He was discharged from the army on 20 December 1873 having been found Medically Unfit for service.
His conduct was regarded as having been "Very Good indeed" and he was in possession of four good conduct badges as well as the Turkish and Crimean War Medal and the "silver medal for Long Service and Good Conduct." His intended destination was 43 East Field Street, Leeds.
He was awarded the LSGCM with a gratuity of £5 on 22 November 1873.
Medal is in good condition unless otherwise indicated. Sold with some research. Please note that although Allen's papers (included) confirm the award of both the Crimea and the Turkish Crimea medals, he could not be found on the rolls.
