Walter Edward Weatherson was born in Cambo, Morpeth, Northumberland on 9 May 1921. At the time of the 1939 Register he was probably living with his parents in Close House, Cambo, although this section of the register has been redacted.
He enlisted with the Royal Air Force and was appointed an Acting Flying Officer, on probation, in the Technical Branch, Signals (London Gazette 16 November 1943). He had been a Flight Sergeant with no. 571144 beforehand.
Having joined the West Yorkshire Metropolitan Police, Weatherson rose through the ranks to Inspector and it was in this capacity that he was awarded the 1977 Jubilee Medal.
He passed away at Dewsbury Hospital on 16 April 2008.
