William Henry Huxtable was born in Taunton, Somerset on 1 February 1909. He enlisted for service with the Royal Artillery on 1 February 1924 as a Boy and was taken on strength of the Royal Engineers on 1 February 1927 when he had attained the necessary age. Assigned no. 1865733 he was with the 139th, 222nd S/L Training Regiment. He was re-engaged on 28 July 1938 for a period of 21 years.
With the outbreak of WWII he was transferred back to the Royal Artillery on 7 February 1940 and saw service at Home in England until being posted to North West Europe on 8 June 1944 - returning to the UK on 22 December 1947. He was awarded the LSGCM with gratuity in 1943. He had been transferred back to the Royal Engineers on 29 December 1942 and been remustered as a Timberman.
His course instructor once remarked: "Although he produced satisfactory results in his written work, his ability to instruct is marred by a very mournful delivery and lack of enthusiasm, and as a result he finds it difficult to hold the interest of his class which gains very little from his efforts. Result "F"."
His WWII medals were posted to him at 13 Draycott Avenue, Taunton, Somerset on 5 January 1949.
Huxtable later joined the Constabulary with whom he was awarded the Police LSGCM.
He died in Plymouth, Devon on 11 June 1995
