John Battles was born in Dundee on 3 June 1914. Employed by the North British Linoleum Company, he enlisted with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots on 13 June 1940 but only saw service in Italy later on where he was aken Prisoner of War during a fierce action on Monte Castellaro in Central Italy on 29 November 1944. He was detained at Stalag VIIA Moosburg and put to work at Mittenwald from April until 1 May 1945.
His medals were posted to him at the above address on 7 February 1950.
Battles died in Dundee on 13 September 2004 at the age of 90.
