Awarded for operational service France, Belgium, Holland or Germany between D Day and the German surrender i.e. 6th June 1944 to 8th May 1945.
Criteria
Navy & Merchant Navy: Service afloat in direct support of land operations in the areas mentioned plus service in the North Sea south from a line from the Firth of Forth to Kristiansand, in the English Channel or the Bay of Biscay East of Longitude 6 degrees West.
Service of the South of France qualified for the Italy star and NOT the France and Germany Star.
Service ashore in any areas of land operations qualified. The 1939-1945 Star did not need to be earned first.
Army: Participation on land in any operation in any of the countries mentioned above.
RAF: Participation in aircrew service over Europe between the dates mentioned except flights which started in the Mediterranean which qualified for the Italy Star and NOT the France and Germany Star.
It should be noted that personnel entering Austria at the end of the war qualified for the Italy star and NOT the France and Germany Star.
