A father/Son WWI/WWII grouping of medals to the Schonbeck family who originated in Germany but had made their way to England by WWI and to Australia by WWII.

Father: Henry Charles Schonbeck was born in Whitechapel, London in March 1878, the son of a German immigrant. He served in the Middlesex Regiment with the 1st I.L. Company and, having survived the war, emigrated to Australia where he died at Katoomba on 11 September 1962. The "1st Infantry Labour Company" of the Middlesex Regiment, was a British Army unit that was part of the larger Middlesex Regiment during World War I. These companies were formed to utilize men of enemy alien parentage for labour duties. 

Son: Bernard Roland Schonbeck was born in London in 1909. A Truck Driver, he served with the 2/11 Australian Infantry Battalion WWII, attesting for service on 30 July 1942. He was discharged on 20 December 1945. He was described as " Very keen and attentive but slow to absorb instruction." He served in New Guinea against the Japanese.
