A fine quality replica of this rare medal. Complete with swivelling suspension and finished in pure silver.

Sanctioned on 1st June 1874, this medal was awarded for the campaign by Major General Sir Garnet Wolseley against the Ashantis under King Kofi Karikari.
Those who later qualified for the East and West Africa Medal were awarded clasps only for attachment to the Ashantee Medal.

A single clasp COOMASSIE was awarded for those who took part in the battle of Amoaful on 31st January 1874 and the actions between there and Coomassie including the capture of the capital on 4th February 1874.

Four Victoria Crosses were awarded during the campaign Major (later Major General) Reginald William Sartorious, 6th Bengal Cavalry; Lieutenant (later Colonel) Mark Sever Bell, Royal Engineers; Lieutenant (Later Major) Edric Frederick Gifford (Lord) 2/24th Foot and Lance Sergeant (later Sergeant) Samuel McGaw, 42nd Foot.
