Authorised by General Order 1st June 1847 it was originally intended to cover the period 1793-1815 but was extended to cover until 1840.
Commencing in 1847 five separate London Gazette entries appeared over the following three and a half years, it was not until 1849 that the medal itself was eventually awarded.
A total of 232 clasps were sanctioned although some were issued in very small numbers sometimes only a single clasp such as 'Dido 24 June 1795' was awarded. The most common clasp is that awarded for 'Syria' with some 6,978 issued.
The two most famous clasps are probably 'Trafalgar' and '1st June 1794' - the Glorious 1st of June. As there is such a plethora of clasps and possible combinations, this medal is made to order so please allow four weeks from date of order. The medal has a swivelling suspension in the manner of the original and is die struck to the finest quality. If you dont see the clasp you want please call us and we can arrange to manufacture it for you.
