Authorised in September 1943 to mark Sir Charles Napier's conquest of Scinde. Originally the issued suspender was made of steel, many were subsequently changed. This has the original style suspender but is plated brass rather than steel. During the first Afghan war of 1839-42 the British had made use of the Scinde territories which lay across the River Indus. Wanting to keep them they installed their own nominated ruler in place of the incumbent. The Baluchis attacked Hyderabad in retaliation for this exchange of rulers. Sir Charles took just six months to complete the conquest and annexation of the Scinde. Three different reverses were issued, 'Meeanee 1843', 'Hyderabad 1843' and 'Meeanee and Hyderabad 1843' This example is for the action at Hyderabad on 24th March 1843.
