Awarded to mark the major fleet action of Cape Trafalgar on 21st October 1805 when Vice-Admiral The Lord Nelson on HMS Victory, with 27 ships of the line, effectively destroyed the Franco-Spanish fleet.
Lord Nelson was mortally wounded in the action, which lasted five hours.
