In 1993 the award of the AFC was opened to all ranks as part of the review of the honours system, replacing the award of the AFM to other ranks below Warrant Officer.

Squadron Leader Lee Christian BROWN-AHERN, Royal Air Force, 2658817D was awarded the AFC in November 2019, his citation is as follows;

"For his immediate and decisive judgement as well as his impeccable handling skills in preventing his Tornado from crashing onto a densely populated city and thus avoiding loss of life, when it suffered a total loss of thrust during its final approach, in Dammam on 3 January 2019."

This is a superb quality die-struck replica identical to the original with the exception of the word copy being at the rear centre.
