Instituted in 1856 by Queen Victoria to reward the many acts of gallantry that had taken place during the Crimean War and available to all ranks.
Probably the most famous decoration in the world and no doubt the single most valuable piece in the collecting world.
This die-struck example is superb in its detailing and is used in many museums in place of originals whose value is too great to go on public display. The last award of the Victoria Cross was to Lance Corporal Joshua Leakey of the Parachute Regiment for service in Afghanistan.
Please note that all requests for naming will be validated with the London Gazette.
