Awarded to Officers of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve for 12 years service. The Elizabeth II version was awarded from 1952 until 1966.

This decoration was replaced by the RNR Decoration in 1966 on the merger of the RNR and RNVR.

The year of award was engraved on the reverse of the knot.
