The Distinguished Service Order (DSO) issued during the reign of Queen Victoria. Established in 1886 and manufactured entirely of 18ct gold until 1889.

It was intended to reward commissioned officers below field rank, for distinguished service during war for which the VC was inappropriate.

In the review of the honours system in 1993 this was no longer permitted as an award for gallantry and is now bestowed on all ranks for distinguished command. No NCO has yet been awarded it!

Superbly die struck, this copy medal is finished in vitreous enamels it is supplied with the top bar fitted with pin.
