Alfred Barry was born in Chester, Cheshire on 7 July 1901. He joined the Merchant Navy towards the end of WWI, earning the Mercantile Marine Medal and British War Medal for his services probably aboard "Balmor" (ship No. 96414) which he served on from 12 October 1918.
Having parted company with the Merchant Navy, Barry became a Police Constable in Liverpool earning the 1953 Coronation Medal in this capacity.
According to the 1939 Register he was a Police Constable living at 95 Morningside Road, Liverpool. He was awarded the Police Exemplary Service Medal.
