John Wilkie McMullen was born in Edinburgh in 1893. He was also known as Wilkie John McMullen and John George Wilkie McMullen. He attested with the RGA (T) in 1910 and was mustered for service in WWI ON 5 August 1914. He served in the UK until being posted to France on 2 January 1917. where he served until 23 December 1918. He was awarded the Military Medal for Bravery in the Field in the LG of 12 December 1917 and was awarded the Silver War Badge (which is not with the group) on 8 January 1919. He was awarded the Territorial Forces Medal after it had been confirmed that he had verbally stated that he was prepared to serve abroad by the end of September 1914.
Post-war he became a Skilled Workman, Class I in the Edinburgh Telephone Area and was awarded a Civil Service Certificate on 7 November 1930. He died on 30 November 1938 in Leith Hospital, Edinburgh as a result of a street accident.
