Thomas Kenward was born on 29 March 1895 in Brighton, Sussex. He enlisted into the 9th Lancers at Eastbourne on 17 September 1912 and was posted to France with "C" Squadron on 21 August 1914 - just over two weeks after war was declared. By October 1914, the 9th Lancers had moved north to the Ypres Salient.
He died of wounds at about 6 p.m. on 3 October 1914 en route from Segannes to Juvisy in No. 3 Ambulance Train. The wounds sustained were a Gunshot Wound to his Right Thigh and a fractured right arm.
