Sidney Arthur Stratton was born in Watford, Herts in 1880. A Carman by occupation, he enlisted for service in the Militia on 10 October 1899 and was posted to the 4th Bedfords with no. 4078. He joined the Bedfordshire Regiment on 21 November 1899 and was posted to South Africa where he fought in the Anglo Boer War in the Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal, earning himself the Queens South Africa medal issued from the roll dated 15 July 1901 at Mafeking and the Kings South Africa medal off the roll dated at Naauwpoort on 10 March 1903. He served with the 2nd Battalion attached to the 4th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment in South Africa.

Stratton was posted to India on 1 March 1902 and, having returned to England was discharged. He volunteered for WWI and rejoined the Bedfordshires in August. He was posted to France on 19 September 1914 and fought at La Bassee, Lens, Loos, Ypres and a number of other engagements. He was Killed in Action on 15 January 1915 and is buried in the Wulverghem-Lindenhoek Road Cemetery. 

Medals are in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold with some research. Please note that the Queens and Kings South Africa medals are not included.
