Crimea Medal clasp Sebastopol (D. BRISTER. 10TH HUSSARS)
Daniel Brister was born in Hammersmith, London in 1834. A Victualler's Servant, he attested for service in the 10th Hussars on 22 January 1852 and was posted to the Crimea where he was engaged in operations to end the Siege of Sebastopol - specifically in the winter of 1854-1855, participating in actions such as the Battle of Eupatoria and the Battle of the Tchernaya, enduring harsh conditions alongside the siege efforts.
According to the muster rolls, Brister was hospitalised in June 1855 but recovered and was posted back to England, disembarking on 3 June 1856. He was discharged by private purchase on 10 October 1862. In 1901 he was the Head Caretaker of the Baptist Chapel in Hammersmith and, according to the 1921 census, a Pensioned Soldier living at 3 St Peter's Villas in Hammersmith. He was, at the age of 88, a widower.
Brister died on 13 August 1924.
Medal is in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold with some research including a summary of his service from the muster rolls and a receipt from Spink dated 11 March 1974 when the collector paid £25 for the medal with the Turkish Crimea Medal.
