George William Burden was born in Sheerness on 21 November 1895 (some records suggest 21 October 1895). By the time of the 1911 census he was already a serving member of the Royal Field Artillery. With the outbreak of WWI he was posted to France on 19 August 1914, serving as a Gunner with the 30th Brigade RA. He ended the war as a Sergeant.

Burden was a career soldier and he continued with the RA, serving in India for a time - which is where he was at the time of the 1921 census. He was awarded the LSGCM in 1929. He would appear to have been commissioned as a photo shows him sporting Captain's pips.

A Postman in later life, he was living at 84 Crescent Drive, Bromley with his wife Ellen whom he had married in India on 3 November 1921.

He died at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup whilst living at 84 Crescent Drive, Petts Wood, Orpington on 19 June 1967.

Medals are in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold with some research including a large photograph of him mounted on horseback and a photo of him in officer's uniform in later life.
