India General Service Medal (5820912 PTE. H. MARGETTS, SUFF. R.)
Horace Owen Margetts was born in Ipswich, Suffolk in 1895. He saw service with the 17th London Regiment in France from 23 August 1916, and Salonika from 22 November 1916 and was twice Wounded in Action - on 22 August 1916 and on 1 May 1918. He transferred to the 1st Battalion, Suffolk Regiment with whom he saw service in Malabar 1921-22.
Margetts was awarded the IGSM with Malabar 1921-22 clasp on 17 June 1924 and went on to earn the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, awarded to him in 1933 in the rank of Sergeant.
A career soldier, he saw service in France & Germany in WWII - as a Sergeant with the Royal Pioneer Corps. He was released to the Reserve (aged 50) on 18 June 1945. His WWII medals were sent to him on 7 November 1949 to 48 Devonshire Road, Cambridge.
He died in Essex on 15 March 1966.
Medal is in good (cleaned) condition but is missing the Malabar 1921-22 clasp. Margetts was also entitled to the British War and Allied Victory Medals as well as the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45 and the France & Germany Star - none of these are included. Sold with extensive research.
