Military Medal GVIR (788365 GNR. S.E. WARREN. R.A. DUPLICATE); 1939-45 Star; Africa Star clasp 8th Army; France & Germany Star; War Medal 1939-45 - unnamed as awarded.
Stanley Edward Warren was born in Kettering, Northamptonshire in 1909. He served with the 2nd RHA in North Africa and was awarded the Military Medal for Bravery whilst at Gazala in North Africa on 6 June 1942. This was in the run-up to the fall of Tobruk later that month.
His citation reads as follows:
"After the enemy had attacked the KNIGHTSBRIDGE BOX from the S.W. on 6th June 1942, they established a large number of machine gun posts in the derelict tanks on and just behind our minefield. It was necessary to send an OP to the Guards Infantry under heavy fire and sniping. The line was out on several occasions by shell fire and he made three visits to the OP on the 6th June 42 and four visits on the 7th June 42. He went alone on all occasions and it was through his efforts that the OP was able to destroy and neutralise many machine gun posts and A/Tank guns in that area."
Warren went on to serve in France & Germany and was discharged to the Reserve on 23 January 1946. His medals were posted to him at Church St. Woodford, Kettering, Northants.
Warren passed away in Thrapston in 1991.
