Frederick George Cleal was born in Leicester on 8 April 1880. An Insurance Agent by occupation, he attested for WWI service on 10 November 1915 and was posted to the Army Reserve the same day. He was mobilised for service on 6 March 1917 and posted to the front as a Gunner with the 88th Siege Battery of the Royal Garrison Artillery for service in France on 18 September 1917.
He was transferred to the Army Reserve on 14 June 1919 - having been with the British Expeditionary Force overseas until 17 October 1918. He was awarded a pension for slight Deafness in his Right Ear.
According to the 1939 Register he was a National Health Insurance Clerk and A. O Foresters Secretary living at 31 Saville Street. Leicester. He passed away in 1960.
