John Douglas Adkin was born in Netherseal, Derbyshire on 10 July 1893. At some point he emigrated to North ASmerica and was living in Massachusetts at the time he enlisted for service in WWI with the 13th Canadian Infantry on 26 June 1917.
He was posted to England and then to France on in March 1918. He sustained a Gunshot Wound to his Right Arm, fracturing it in the process, on 9 September 1918 and was hospitalised and returned to England. Whilst being treated for his wounds he contracted Influenza which rapidly became worse, turning into Pneumonia. He died at 6 p.m. on 25 October 1918.
His medical sheet stated that there was a, "Consolidation of right lobe with chocolate coloured purulent fluid choking up bronchioles - appearance suggestive of acute gangrene Rt Lower lobe."
His death was classed as "Died of Wounds"
