Claude Samuel Shinton was born in Wolverhampton in 1893. He attested for service with the Royal Highlanders (Black Watch) on 11.12.15 and was posted to France on 22.7.16. He transferred to the Royal Engineers with no. 343153 on 20.6.17 and enjoyed a meteoric rise to the rank of Regimental Sergeant Major with them.
A budding politician, he stood for the County Council for the Cotsall Ward in 1934.
According to the 1939 Register he was living at Southcott, Lansdowne Avenue in Cotsall and was a Railway Company Area Representative by occupation. He passed away there in 1979.
