Queens South Africa Medal clasp South Africa 1902 (357 PTE. J. WHELLER. NATAL M.I.)
John Wheller was born in Pietermaritzburg, Natal in 1880. He enlisted for service with the Commander in Chiefs Bodyguard in the Anglo Boer War on 26 December 1900, naming his father, Ed, as his next of kin. His address was 1 Boom Street, Pietermaritzburg and his occupation was given as Bricklayer.
He took his discharge at Durban on 26 June 1901 and later attested for service with no. 357 with the Natal Mounted Infantry. The NMI were recruited to be the 2nd Battalion of the Natal Voluntary Composite Regiment but this never materialised and they remained as the NMI serving in Northern Natal, primarily as border guards on the lookout for any Boers intending to invade the Colony. They were disbanded in July 1902.
Medal has edge knocks at 6 o' clock which does not in any way interfere with the naming. Sold with some research.
