James Jerrett certainly got around. Born in Portsea, Hants and a Boatman by occupation, he first enlisted with the 4th battalion, Rifle Brigade, seeing service with them in the Burmese War of 1887-89. He was awarded the India General Service Medal clasp Burma 1887-89 which is not included. He next enlisted as a Sapper with the Royal Engineers on 19 July 1897 seeing Home service with them for 4 years 110 days before being discharged on 5 November 1901 to enlist with the Royal Army Medical Corps.

The attestation forms he completed at Netley for this purpose on 8 November 1901 stated that he was a Male Nurse and Boatman by occupation (he attended a Male Nurse course at Netley from 3 April to 7 November 1901). Having served in the Anglo Boer War from 7 December 1901, he was discharged on termination of engagement on 9 July 1902.

Medal is in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold with copied service papers and medal rolls.
