Queens South Africa Medal clasps Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Belfast (3357 Pte. J. TRAVERS. 6/Drgns.)
John Henry Fawcett Travers was born in Marylebone, Middlesex on 1 April 1877. His father served with the Royal Horse Guards. Travers attested for service with the 6th Dragoons on 7 June 1893 and was posted to South Africa on 23 October 1899, shortly after the commencement of the Anglo Boer War. He had an active campaign and was in the actions at Johannesburg, Diamond Hill and Belfast, as well as seeing service in the Cape Colony and Orange Free State.
He was one of the men, whilst stationed in South Africa, to be temporarily transferred to the Provisional Transvaal Constabulary - a body brought into being to form a quasi- police force to man the major cities of the Transvaal.
He opted to remain in South Africa after hostilities were concluded and became a Farmer in the northern parts of the Transvaal, around Gravelotte near Phalaborwa. He passed away at Gravelotte from Congestive Heart Failure on 29 July 1947.
Medal is in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold with copy of medal roll. Also entitled to a Kings South Africa medal which is not included.
